Fundamentals of Crew Leadership


This title is designed to support leadership training for front line leaders, such as crew leaders and foreman, to ensure their crews contribute safely and productively to active projects. Fundamentals of Crew Leadership provides training on the effective leadership skills and practical leadership applications, such as scheduling, workface planning, field reporting, and resource control. It also introduces learners to critical modern leadership skills, such as managing diverse crews, addressing performance issues, and resolving conflict.

While this module has been designed to assist the recently promoted crew leader, it is beneficial for anyone in management. The course covers basic leadership skills and explains different leadership styles, communication, delegating, and problem solving. Jobsite safety and the crew leader’s role in safety are discussed, as well as project planning, scheduling, and estimating. Includes performance tasks to assist the learning process.

Instructor Requirements

In addition to our standard instructor requirements, instructors must achieve the following education, training and experience requirements:

  1. Completion of NCCER’s MTICTP or ICTP class
  2. Verification and authorization by the ATS
  3. Five years of verifiable experience in the area of instruction: Safety, Human Resources or Resource Controls
